U.S.
Air Force. The U.S. Air Force was originally part of the U.S. Army,
designated
as the Army Air Corps. It became a separate entity on 18 September
1947, formed
under the National Security Act of 1947. It is one of the seven
American
Uniformed Services and the one most recently formed. It is tasked with
overseeing over 5000 aircraft, 450 ICBM's and 32 satellites.
