U.S. NAVY

Herbert Taft Wilmouth, Jr. was born in Charlotte County on January 14, 1937; the son of Herbert Taft Sr. and Bessie Ranson Wilmouth.

Herbert served his country on two different occasions, both the the U.S. Navy.  He first enlisted on April 21, 1954 and was released on November 1, 1957. After a short time as a civilain, he once again joined the Navy on February 29, 1960 and served for sixteen more years
until released on September 1, 1976, having attained the rank of Boatswain's Mate First Class. It was during this second enlistment that he saw duty in the Vietnam Conflict.

Herbert Jr. married Claire Virginia Dickerson on January 17, 1958 and this union was blessed with five sons.

             

Herbert Taft Wilmouth Jr. died on Feburary 13, 1997 and was laid to rest in the Wilmouth Family Cemetry at Drakes Branch, Charlotte County, VA.
