HARRY DUDLEY RUTLEDGE
   Staff Sergeant - U.S. Army Air Corps
World War II


Harry D. Rutledge was born on May 5, 1921 in Charlotte County, VA. and died on August 21, 1985. He was the son of Isaac D. and Nannie Carter Rutledge. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the Charlotte public school system.

Answering the call for troops, after the United States entered World War II, Harry found himself in Richmond, Virginia on August 6, 1942, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Private Rutledge was assigned serial number 33220980 and headed to boot camp.  Private Rutledge joined the Army Air Corps where he rose to the rank of Staff Sargeant.

        

After his release from the Army, Harry returned to his native Charlotte and on December 17, 1945 he married Kathleen Lipscomb and settled in to farm life for the next 40 years.  

Harry passed away on August 21, 1985 and was buried near his Mother and Father in the cemetery at Antioch Baptist Church.
