Born and raised in Randolph, Charlotte County, VA.

13 October 1775, was the date of the Navy’s official establishment, when a Continental Congress resolution created the Continental Navy. At the end of the Revolutionary War, the last ship was sold and the Continental Navy was disbanded. Eleven years later, conflicts between American shipping and pirates in the Mediterranean, led to the Naval Act of 1794, which created the current U.S. Navy.

U.S.S. Charlottesville (PF-25), named after Charlottesville, Virginia, was launched in 1943.  It was a Tacoma Class Frigate which served in three world navies. 

From 1944-1945 she served in the U.S. Navy earning 2 battles stars in WWII.

From 1945-1949 she served in the Soviet Navy under the lend-lease program.

 In 1953 she was lent to the Japanese Navy, renamed Matsu and served there until returned to the US in 1972 and decommissioned.
