The “New” Charlotte Greys was a baseball team organized in the county in 1946, shortly after the war.  There was also a Charlotte Greys team in Charlotte over 50 years ago.  The above photo shows the members of  the team organized in 1946 when the Patrick Henry Baseball League was formed.  The “Greys” fielded an excellent team, and bring back many fond memories to many of younger “old-timers.”  The League was made up of the following teams:  Appomattox, Brookneal, Charlotte C. H., Clays Mill, Keysville, Red House, Republican Grove and Rustburg.

The players are identified as follows:  Front Row (left to right) Clarence Dunn, Jack Vaught, Russell Hamlett, Carl Vassar, Billy Nichols, Calvin Ferrell, Raymond “Hobo” Vassar,
Back Row:  Leo Garrett, Glenn Andrews, Creighton Reipe, Harvey Copal, Walter Tuck, Bryant Garnett, Stan Vassar, Howard Scruggs, Jim Hughes.
Absent when picture was taken:  Raymond Copal.  The Bat Boy could not be identified.  Maybe some of our readers can tell us his name.  (Bat Boy identified as Emmett Smith, Jr. in a later edition of the Gazette.)
