Hazel Adams Abbitt, 87, died Sunday, August 20, 2017, in Chippenham Medical Center. She was the wife of the late George Raleigh Abbitt, Jr.
Born in Keysville, VA, on September 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Etta Richardson and Charles Monroe Adams. She was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two children, Delores A. Gilligan and husband, George and George D. Abbitt and wife, Peggy; one brother, Reed Adams and wife, Florence; two sisters, Pansy Sloan and Dorothy Martin and husband, William; five grandsons, Jamie and wife, Tammy, Mack, Tyler, Vince, Patrick;  and six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Austin, Sara Beth, Sam, Jack and Maia.
She was preceded in death by a grandson Travis.
A graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Steve Conwell. The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. before the service.

FATHER-IN-LAW OF MR. W.M. CASEY DIES
Lynchburg, Va., Feb. 14. --B. Bransford Adams, 53, stock broker, was found dead in his bed yesterday morning at his home, Riverview Place, death, apparently, resulting from heart trouble.  He was a native of Lynchburg and a son of the late L.H. Adams, Sr. For many years he was with the Adams-Monroe Manufacturing Company, but for fifteen years had engaged in the brokerage business. Mr. Adams was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church.  He was educated in the local schools and graduated from Randolph-Macon College, Ashland.
Mrs. Adams was in Florida and his son, B.F. Adams, Jr., was in North Carolina at the time of his death, a daughter, Mrs. W. Mallan Casey, being at the home.  In addition to his own family he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: I.H. Adams, Jr., Mrs. R.E. Jones, Mrs. Ettie Adams Fleming, Miss Sallie Adams, John C. Adams and Robert P. Adams, of Lynchburg, and Tell C. Adams, of Huntington, W.Va.

George A. “Jiggs” Adams, 85, of 657 Colemans Ferry Road, Saxe, VA., passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy T. Adams; sons, Terry Ray Adams (Jeanne) of Chase City and G. Malcolm Adams of Keysville; daughters, Mitzi A. Palmer (Ray) of Saxe, and Susan J. Adams of Keysville; one brother, Billy Adams of Drakes Branch; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther A. and Pattie R. Adams; one granddaughter; four brothers; and two sisters.
“Jiggs” was a retired employee of Westpoint Stevens of 52 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.   “Jiggs” was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing, and baseball.
Reverend Justin Hicks will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017, in Lebanon United Methodist Church, Drakes Branch, VA, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Roger is survived by his wife, Joyce; his mother, Nancy Adams of Drakes Branch, and many friends.

Wirt Harvey Adams, age 86 of Drakes Branch, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Chase City Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Martha Guthrie Anderson, widow of the late Chas. Anderson, of Prince Edward County, Virginia, age 90 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Allen, of near Douglas, on Sunday, December 30th, 1928, at noon after an illness of many months. On Tuesday at 2 o'clock her remains were interred at Bethlehem Cemetery to sleep beside her loved ones and rest until the resurrection morn. Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. ?. She was the mother of a large family and the ???????????????. Her prayer was answered. She had made her home for many years, with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Allen. Upon her was lavished a great wealth of affection, few widows had more devoted children. To know her was to love her. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian Church and lived happily in her Christian faith as she ripened in years Christian experience, matured and her declining years were cherished and brightened. The faith of the just is a shining light, that shineth more and more into a perfect day. She leaves to mourn their loss, one daughter, Mrs. Frank Allen; Mr. Lil Anderson, of Richmond; Mr. Henry Anderson, of Prince Edward County; Rev. C.C. Anderson, of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Sam Anderson, of Prince Edward County; Mr. Tom Anderson, of Florida. While her loved ones and friends are sad over loss we deeply feel. And sometime in the future, when God thinks best we shall go to her where there is rest, sweet rest

Stanley Anderson, 80, of Charlotte County, Virginia, passed away on May 30, 2015 peacefully in his sleep.
Stanley was born February 14, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Erik Johann Anderson and Norma Hultmann Anderson. He spent his youth fishing and crabbing in Hampton Roads with his three brothers, Eric, Ralph, and Howard. Following in his big brother Eric's footsteps, Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953 at age 18. While in the Navy, Stanley wrote letters detailing the beauty of Cuba and told many stories of being transported off the USS Hornet in a cargo hold under the single seat fighter planes to the Hawaiian Islands that had a need for his electrical skills. He admitted he volunteered for these trips because the galley lines were much shorter. After his career in the Navy, Stanley attended Embry-Riddle Flight School to earn his pilot's license. He flew for Piedmont and later USAir before retiring to his home, Ingleside, in Charlotte County, Virginia.
Stanley is survived by his former wife, Anne Anderson of Saxe, VA, two children, Eric Anderson of Teaneck, NJ, and Anne Anderson of Keysville, VA, as well as, three step children, Peggy Masters of Saxe, VA, Mackie Lippit of Albany, NY, and Tommy Lippit of Merritt Island, FL.
The memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on June 3, 2015 at his home, Ingleside. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of the arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Tucker “Becky” and son, Michael “Andy” Anthony. Known to many as the Grocery Man Jimmie was the long-time owner/operator of Andrews’ Supermarket. He also served his community as a former member of the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors.

Kathryn Tucker Andrews, age 81, of Charlotte Court House, VA passed away Saturday, April 5, 2013. She is survived by her husband, of sixty years, James Carlton Andrews; two sons, Randy and his wife, Debra, Carlton and his wife, Shannon; a daughter-in-law, Sheila; a sister, Mary Ann Cash; seven grandchildren, Blair and her husband, Brandon, Lauren, Brad, Patrick, Mason and his wife, Tia, Austin and Zach; a lifelong friend, Barbara Wilmoth. She is preceded in death by her son, Andy.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church, Charlotte Court House, VA with food and fellowship beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Randy and Debra Andrews, 531 LeGrande Avenue, Charlotte Court House, VA on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the afternoon and evening. MRS. H.N. ANDREWS OF PHENIX DIES MAY 1
Mrs. Margaret Hill Andrews, wife of H.N. Andrews, died Monday night, May 1, at 8 o'clock.
She was born December 1, 1865 in Charlotte County, the daughter of James Raymond Hill and Mrs. Henrietta Bouldin Hill.
She is survived by her husband and following children, J.F. Andrews, Mrs. H.A. Pugh, S.M. Andrews, Hugh B. Andrews, J.K. Andrews and Miss Elwyn Andrews, all of Phenix; P.M. Andrews of Richmond, G.R. Andrews of Brookneal and B.H. Andrews of Lynchburg, and one sister, Mrs. D.A. Maloney of Cullen and brother, J.R. Hill of Roanoke.  Also seventeen grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church, Wednesday afternoon with interment in the burial ground recently started at that church.  The pastor, Rev. C.H. Watts assisted by Dr. A.C. Hopkins and Rev. D.C. Boone, conducted the service, which was very largely attended. 

Mrs. Andrews had been an invalid for eleven years with a smile and was certainly a most remarkable example of faith and patience.  To know her was to love her.

MRS. MATILDA HARVEY WATKINS ANDREWS
Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Harvey Watkins Andrews, 82, who died after a short illness were held on last Friday, December 9, at the home of her son, Calvin Watkins at Wylliesburg by the Rev. Little of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.  Burial was in the family plot at "Cottage Valley" her old home, near Saxe.
Mrs. Andrews was the daughter of Elizabeth Le Grande and Richard Harvey of Danville, the last surviving member of a family of sixteen children.
In 1878 she was married to William Watkins, a well known horse and cattle breeder at Cottage Valley Stock Farm.  His death occurred in 1916. Some years afterward she married Joshua Andrews of Richmond who preceded her death.  A son, Calvin Watkins of Wylliesburg and one daughter, Mrs. Carrington Tate of Saxe, survive, also a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices (nieces) and nephews.
For 62 years she taught Sunday school at Mt. Hermon where she was always a faithful and willing worker.  A woman of rare Christian character and sterling worth has passed unto her reward.
It can be said of her, well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of they Lord.

Christine Claybrook Arrington, 91, of Farmville, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Richmond, VA.
Her late husband preceded her in death; Albert Murray Arrington Sr. Christine was born in Charlotte County, VA on July 30, 1924 the  daughter of the late Fred B. Claybrook and Virginia Tuck Claybrook.
Christine graduated from Randolph Henry High School in 1942 and went on to graduate from the Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. As a registered nurse she served in various hospitals for the American Red Cross including St. Mary’s Hospital for Polio Victims in Pierre, SD and Quantico Naval Hospital. While living in Richmond, she nursed at the Richmond Alcoholic Sanitarium.
After moving to Farmville in 1954, Christine nursed at Southside Community Hospital and worked as the secretary for her husband’s State Farm Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1987. Since 1976, Christine was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church serving as WMU
President, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School director. 
Playing cards was one of her passions, and she had a very competitive edge. Christine was an avid nature lover and gained great pleasure feeding her birds. Cooking and caring for family and friends brought Christine the most joy. All who knew her will remember her generosity and kindness.
Christine is survived by one son, Albert Murray Arrington Jr.; two daughters, Lisa Arrington Carrington and Sharon Mintoria Arrington, all of Richmond, VA. She has 3 grandchildren, Dawn A. Arthur (Shane) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Albert M. Arrington III (Vicky) of Charlotte NC and Jeffrey D. Arrington of Charleston, SC; also surviving one great granddaughter Whitney Marie Arthur of Roanoke Rapids, NC. She is survived by sisters, Vivian C. Foster (Buck) of Richmond, VA, Sandra C. Odom of Virginia Beach, VA and one brother, Ted Claybrook
(Carol) of Richmond, VA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Claybrook, Leland Claybrook, Curtis Claybrook, Elton Claybrook and 2 sisters, Bertha C. Morrison and June C. Duffy.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Heritage Baptist Church, Farmville, VA with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens. Clements Arvin Buried Tuesday
Burial service for Clements Arvin, 46, who died on Sunday in a Richmond hospital were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the old home site near Keysville with the Rev. J.S. Rushing officiating.  Mr. Arvin died from injuries received when he was kicked by a mule on Wednesday on the farm of a neighbor.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Camilla Napier Arvin; two sisters, Mrs Janie Jordan of Petersburg and Mrs. Bessie Oliver, of Richmond, and one brother, Roger Arvin of Keysville.

Herman Donald Atkins, age 66, of Keysville, VA, formerly of Crewe, VA passed away Saturday, April 11, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman P. Atkins and Lillian Smith Atkins; a brother, Douglas Atkins. Donald is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Spillman (Charlie); Lisa Haley (Dennis); four grandchildren, Shannon Spillman, Lindsey Spillman, Curtis Moorefield, Brittney Moorefield; a brother, Dewey Atkins (Carolyn); and five sisters, Earline Fix (Henry), Geraldine Letterman (Doug), Alice Payne, Nancy Childress, Ellen Jennings (Gene).

Mary Taylor Atkins, age 101, formerly of Green. Bay, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012. She was born in Whittle's Depot near Gretna, Virginia on July 20, 1910. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Earnie R. Atkins, after 66 years of marriage. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was a member of Liberty Christian Church in Green Bay. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce A. Nunnally of Meherrin, Virginia and Janice A. Mottley and her husband, Robert, of Burkeville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Graham Nunnally and wife, Linda, Richard Nunnally and his wife, Melissa; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Liberty Christian Church in Green Bay. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Russell Shirley Austin, 87, of Midway Rd., Phenix passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at home. He was the husband first of the late Dorothy Poindexter Austin and second of the late Thelma Sublett Holt Austin.
Mr. Austin was born in Campbell County, April 7, 1928 son of the late Frank Lee Austin and Willie Rice Austin. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, a U. S. Army veteran and a retired Barber and Cattleman.
He is survived by one son, Stan Austin (Wylie) of Lynchburg; one daughter, Norma Huffman (Wally) of Dagsboro, Del.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Brooke Austin, Sondra Huffman both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Russ Huffman of Dagsboro, Del; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Furlong of Fredericksburg, Kelsey Furlong of Springfield, Clay Huffman of Dagsboro, Del; a special friend and caregiver, Betty Davis of Volens; one step-son, Lloyd Holt (Wanda) of Phenix, one step-daughter, Colleen Latham (Wayne) of Forest; seven step-grandchildren, Joshua Holt, Megan Stanfield, Jenna Amos, Jessica Walker, Allison Beck, Riley Latham and Andrea Mason; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Austin (Connie) of Gladys; three sisters, Mary Croft of Lynchburg, Dot Carr of Brookneal, Jane Roark (Leroy) of Nathalie; a sister-in-law, Marie Austin of Nathalie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Austin (Frances), Bill Austin; two sisters, Bernice Poe (Warren), Lois Wilson (Lyle).
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, June 5, 2015 at Midway Baptist Church by the Rev. Joey Anthony with interment to follow in Wickliffe Cemetery in Brookneal.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at his residence other times.
